Often referred to as the Robin Hood of Poker, Barry Greenstein is one of the top world players in the professional Texas Hold’em poker tournaments including the World Series of poker tournament in Las Vegas, where he won in 2004 and in 2005 in the games of Omaha and Draw Lowball. Playing in the professional level world Texas Hold’em poker tournament poker tour, Barry managed to take the Jack Binion World Poker Open Championship as well, marking himself as an extremely successful and extremely charitable player, as he has given away all of his tournament winnings, somewhere around $4 million at this point, to different charities, mostly the Children Inc. charity which supports deprived and underprivileged children from around the world. Born in 1954, Barry has a strong education in mathematics and computer sciences and has experienced an extremely fascinating background as a former computer programming expert. While displaying a talent for making money at the age of 12, playing in all manner of poker games, obviously illegally, Barry studied hard and showed extreme aptitude for mathematics, leading to his work as a computer programmer for the software giant that would later become Symantec, publishers of Norton system Works and antivirus products.
But obviously, working with computer programming was not nearly profitable enough for Barry and he moved on to bigger and better things, mainly the extremely successful Texas Hold’em poker tournaments that he has competed in and won so frequently in his career. Undoubtedly, the strong background with mathematics and mathematical theory has been a great assistance in his ability to judge the odds and earn consistently in Texas Hold’em poker tournaments as well as the multitude of other poker tournaments and challenges that exist around the world for such an experienced player.
Over the years Barry Greenstein has come down hard on the side of children and families that are fully functioning and has donated tremendous amounts of money towards the cause of helping children and has even refused to teach his own children any type of poker strategy or other types of gaming and gambling until they have successfully managed to equip themselves with a strong educational background. With this clear cut concern for the well-being of the less fortunate and especially children, Barry Greenstein stands out as one of the most successful and compassionate Texas Hold’em poker tournament champions in the world.
